How Game Spotter Works: Our Methodology

Transparency matters. Here's exactly how we track prices, which stores we include, and how our affiliate links work.

Game Spotter is a price comparison site for games, toys, and board games in the UK. We think you deserve to know exactly how we work — where prices come from, how we make money, and what our limitations are.

Where prices come from

We pull prices from retailer product feeds and APIs. These are data streams that retailers publish specifically for comparison sites and affiliates — the same technology used by PriceRunner, Google Shopping, and Kelkoo.

Prices update regularly throughout the day. The "Updated X hours ago"timestamp on each product page tells you how fresh the data is. We aim for at least hourly syncs for major stores.

We currently track prices from stores including HRK Game, Gamivo, IsThereAnyDeal (which aggregates GOG, Fanatical, Green Man Gaming, Humble Bundle, and others), and Amazon UK. We're actively adding more retailers.

How we make money

We use affiliate links. When you click a price and buy something, the retailer pays us a small commission — typically 3–10% of the sale. This doesn't cost you anything extra; the price you see is the price you pay.

Retailers never pay to appear higher in our results. The cheapest price is always shown first, regardless of who we earn more commission from.

What "lowest ever price" means

When we show a "Lowest ever price" badge, we mean the lowest price we've tracked for that product since we started monitoring it. We're a new site, so our historical data only goes back to when we launched. The all-time low according to our records may not be the all-time low across all history — but we'll flag it honestly as our tracked low.

What we don't do

  • We don't accept payment to alter rankings or recommendations
  • We don't fake price history to make discounts look bigger than they are
  • We don't compare against inflated "was" prices — we only show discounts when the retailer itself lists an original price in their feed
  • We don't scrape or violate any site's terms of service

Have a question or spotted an error?

If a price looks wrong, or a product link is broken, please get in touch. We fix errors as quickly as we can.
