Cracking PC Games Going Cheap Right Now That You Might Have Slept On
A few genuinely great PC games are sitting at some of their lowest prices right now, and a couple of them deserve way more attention than they get.
July is a funny month for PC gaming deals. The big summer sales have done their thing, most people have moved on, and yet a handful of genuinely brilliant games are still sitting at rock-bottom prices if you know where to look. Here are the ones worth your money right now.
Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord
This one still does not get the credit it deserves. Bannerlord is a medieval sandbox where you build a warband from nothing, fight massive real-time battles, manage a kingdom, and generally spend far too many hours doing things that have no right to be this compelling. It had a rough early access period and some people wrote it off back then. That was a mistake. It is in a much better state now, the modding community is enormous, and it is going cheap right now. If you like strategy with proper weight behind it, this is a no-brainer.
Sea of Stars: Sunset Edition
Easily the most slept-on game on this list. Sea of Stars is a turn-based RPG that wears its love of 16-bit JRPGs on its sleeve, but it is not just nostalgia bait. The combat is genuinely clever, the pixel art is stunning, and the writing has actual charm to it. The Sunset Edition bundles in extra content on top of the already solid base game. If you grew up on Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy VI and you have not played this yet, sort it out. Currently on sale and well worth it.
Ready or Not
Not for everyone, and I will be upfront about that. Ready or Not is a slow, tense tactical shooter where you clear buildings as a SWAT officer. It demands patience and punishes rushing. Some of the subject matter is deliberately uncomfortable, which has caused controversy. But as a pure tactical experience on PC it is one of the best things in its genre right now. It is going cheap at HRKGame, which is a grey-market key store, so worth knowing that before you buy. Personally I have never had an issue with keys from there, but it is your call.
Persona 3 Reload
Persona 3 Reload launched to a lot of praise and then quietly faded from the conversation as newer things came along. That is a shame because it is a brilliant remake of one of the best JRPGs ever made. The social simulation, the dungeon crawling, the absolutely banging soundtrack. It all holds up. This is available at Green Man Gaming, which is a proper authorised retailer, so no worries there. If you played Persona 5 and wondered what the fuss about the older games was, this is the place to start. Currently one of the cheapest it has been.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2
This came out and absolutely smashed it, then kind of drifted off the front page. Which is wild because it is still excellent. You play as a Space Marine murdering thousands of Tyranids and it is exactly as satisfying as that sounds. The co-op is great fun, the campaign holds up on repeat playthroughs, and the developers have kept supporting it. Also at Green Man Gaming right now at a well below usual price. If you want something loud and stupid in the best possible way, here you go.
Final thought
None of these are obscure indie darlings that nobody has heard of, but they are all games that have slipped out of the weekly conversation and are now going cheap without much fanfare. Bannerlord and Sea of Stars are the two I would push hardest. Both massively underrated, both currently on sale. Check the live prices on their pages and make your own call.
